Allas Pool II

In the 2030s, a completely reimagined Allas Pool II will rise in the same location in Katajanokka.

Since opening in 2016, Allas Pool has grown into one of Helsinki’s most vibrant hotspots, welcoming around 800,000 visitors annually.

As the current facilities are reaching capacity, Allas Pool II will provide much-needed extra space and offer an even better experience for our visitors. Future plans include a more extensive restaurant world, an expanded sauna and pool area, a brand-new indoor spa, and versatile spaces tailored for year-round concerts, events, and conferences.

The venue will be carefully integrated into the surrounding urban landscape, ensuring that the iconic sea and city views are preserved.

An international architecture competition will be launched in late 2026 to find the most suitable concept for this location. Keep an eye on our website and social media for the latest updates and upcoming opportunities to get involved.

Questions and answers about Allas Pool II

The goal is to expand our current, much-loved services. Both locals and tourists have embraced them to such an extent that the current facilities have simply become too small. Adding more space will significantly enhance the overall customer experience.

Plans include a more extensive restaurant world, an expanded sauna world and pool area, an indoor spa, and versatile concert and conference spaces suitable for year-round events. The project forms an internationally attractive destination that combines saunas, swimming, live music, and social gatherings in a central, maritime location.

The City of Helsinki’s strategy focuses on increasing the vitality of the city center. The planned features support this strategy perfectly: they reinforce Helsinki’s position as a year-round travel and event city, support the growth of local restaurant and cultural offerings, enable the hosting of international events and conferences, and utilize the maritime environment within the urban space.

Allas Pool’s high volume of visitors (around 800,000 annually) proves that the current location is successful and highly suitable for these activities. The facilities are being expanded to improve the customer experience for a growing number of visitors.

An international architecture competition will be launched in late 2026. A high standard of quality is required for both the architecture and construction. The most important goal is that the building fits seamlessly into the local urban environment and allows visitors to fully enjoy Helsinki’s maritime and historical views.

An open dialogue regarding the concept will be maintained with the public throughout the various stages of the city planning process. Additionally, the Allas community will be involved through surveys and events as the design moves forward.

A development reservation has been requested for a building complex of approximately 10,000 square meters. The current Allas Pool building is about 2,100 square meters. The final scale of the project will be confirmed during the city planning process.

The new reservation area spans 1.8 hectares, which is twice the size of the land and water area currently in use. The city planning process will ensure that Allas Pool II is carefully integrated into the surrounding urban landscape, preserving the central sea and city views.

Construction for the Allas Pool II project is estimated to begin in the 2030s. It’s not possible to give an exact schedule at this stage, as the city planning process is ongoing. In addition, the harbor wall renovations and the building permit process must be completed, and the building’s designer must be selected through an international architecture competition before construction can begin. The architecture competition will be organized in late 2026.

The City of Helsinki is running a broader South Harbour development project, where the entire area is being replanned. In the upcoming city plan, the area’s harbor wall will be repaired to improve flood protection, which will raise the ground level along the South Harbour waterfront. The current Allas Pool building must be dismantled for the harbor wall renovations to take place

Allas Pool was originally intended to be a temporary project with a lease ending in 2030. The expanded Allas Pool II, designed to accommodate our growing visitor numbers, will become a permanent part of Helsinki.

Together with the City of Helsinki, we have been actively scouting a location where Allas Pool can continue its operations while the South Harbour is being redeveloped. The new location will be announced as soon as the final decision is made. The objective is for Allas Pool’s operations to become a permanent part of this new area as well.

Noise management is taken very seriously and will be a key focus throughout the entire design process. Special attention will be paid to limiting concert noise as early as the preparation phase of the architecture competition. In accordance with regulations, noise must not cause a disturbance to local residents. The goal is to improve noise management from what it is now.

The project’s estimated budget is approximately €65 million. The budget will be specified as project planning progresses. The project has already generated strong interest in preliminary discussions with real estate investors.

The area is reserved to Nordic Urban for development. Changing the operations of Allas Pool into a permanent part of Helsinki through a zoning process supports the city’s strategic goals. An architectural design competition will be held for the building.
